Cheryl & Gary

Cheryl and Gary, Owners of Gardenhouse in Northwood-WPB

I grew up in a family with three children, where everyone was an expert in talking and listening to six different conversations all at the same time.  I needed to find my own voice.  In my early twenties, I traveled to Switzerland and picked up my first camera to record my adventures.  I immersed myself in the world of photography and began photographing for major European magazines.

Later in San Francisco.  I met my husband Gary an artist, metal sculptor and constant source of inspiration.  I opened a successful advertising and fine art photography studio and worked with some of the countries finest art directors.  On weekends as a way to relax, we would search flea markets, antique stores and meet dealers who had a shared passion for vintage furnishing.  Giving the existing treasures my own signature style, I filled our home, studio and our friends’ homes with fabulous finds.  With inspiring new finishes, modern fabrics and an original point of view, I recreated them into “vintage with a modern twist”.  Today I am living my dream of creating one of a kind home furnishings and contemporary Fine Art . Gary and I bought a charming building in Northwood Village two years ago, renovated it with the help of a grant from the CRA of West Palm Beach.  I opened Gardenhouse where I redesign vintage indoor/outdoor furnishings with unpredictable modern fabrics and finishes.  We  opened a little over a year ago and our products have been published in several national magazines like Southern Living, Coastal Living and Architectural Digest to name a few.

While here in West Palm Beach, I have focused on my fine art photography.  While on a trip to Spain eight years ago, along the coastal towns of the Costa Brava, I began photographing in an impressionistic style. After our trip to Spain, I had an exhibition at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C. I then photographed in this style across America and from this project, I had an exhibition at the San Francisco Art Commission.  When I moved to southeast Florida I began my new series entitled Dreamscapes. My camera becomes a paint brush where I convey memories of childhood, as well as  memories spent along the mediterrean coasts of  France, Spain, Italy and Greece.  As Bruce Helander, Artist and Art Critic, commented I am part color field painter, part impressionist and part abstractionist.  I am now represented by galleries in New York, Paris, Miami and Palm Beach.
